Postoperative Care for Your Child at Sunnat Khatna Clinics!
At Sunnat Khatna Clinics, we are committed to ensuring the best care for your child post-circumcision. Here are some essential tips and guidelines to help you with your child’s healing process:
Postoperative Care Instructions:
Gauze Removal:
Your child will have gauze wrapped around his penis after the procedure. If it doesn’t fall off on its own, soak it in warm water and carefully remove it after 48 hours. In case of bleeding, follow the instructions below.
Healing Area Care:
Apply petroleum jelly (Vaseline/A&D ointment) generously on the penis to protect the healing area and prevent it from sticking to the diaper. Do this with every diaper change for the first 3-5 days or until the area looks fully healed. If an absorbable diaper is not available, keep the area as clean and dry as possible.
Managing Bleeding:
A small amount of blood on the gauze or diaper is normal. However, if the blood soaks the diaper or makes a spot larger than your two thumbs, seek medical attention. If bleeding occurs during a diaper change, hold direct pressure with gauze on the site for 5 minutes. If bleeding continues, seek medical attention immediately.
Signs of Infection:
A shiny white or yellowish film on the penis is normal and part of the healing process. However, if you see a yellowish discharge that can be wiped away, has a foul odor, or is causing increasing redness and swelling, seek medical attention. Watch for signs like fever, lack of wet diapers, loss of appetite, or inconsolable crying as they may indicate an infection.
Healing Time:
The circumcision site may take several days to a week to heal completely. During this time, be gentle around the area and keep it clean. Most circumcisions heal fully within 2 weeks.
Foreskin Retraction:
It’s normal for some babies to develop a small area of fat at the base of the penis, which may push the skin up and cover part of the head of the penis. Gently retract the skin to the base of the head of the penis several times a day to prevent reattachment. This should improve as your baby grows.
Questions or Concerns:
If you have any questions about the circumcision wound or your child’s care, please don’t hesitate to contact your local healthcare provider or reach out to us directly.
